Movies: The Angry Birds Movie (U), X-Men: Apocalypse (12A), Argo (DVD – 15) & Transformers (12)

The Angry Birds Movie (U) – what’s it about? Red and his bird friends have to deal with their anger issues and handle the pig situation.

I 100% thought this was going to be absolutely terrible, a friend wanted to see it and I have to admit as I don’t have an iPhone or anything (well except an old iPod) I’ve never actually played Angry Birds. This is very much a kids movie but there are a couple of things that the adults will find funny and the kids not so much. I remember we were laughing a few times but everyone else was silent because people hadn’t picked up on the hidden humour. I came away thinking this movie was so bad its actually pretty good, it’s not something you need to see at the cinema and I think you’ll ever get it or you’ll be like wtf have I just watched.

X-Men: Apocalypse (12A) – what’s it about? Set in the 1980s after the events of X-Men Days of Future Past, an ancient mutant re-emerges and plans to destroy the world.

So I was a little dubious about this because you know it being a re-visioning of the world of X-Men and I was a little meh thinking it’s going to be loads of teenagers and it’s just not going to meet up to the standards of all the previous X-Men movies (which if you hadn’t guessed I love, it’s my favourite Marvel creation) and Apocalypse also looked a little lame, just like he’d be ripped out of Avengers. Anyway enough bitching about what I thought this was going to be like and onto what it was actually like! So Apocalypse, the character…freaking way better than I thought it be, yes I actually loved what they done with the character and he worked really well for the movie, I know some people will probably still be like meh but I thought he came out pretty damn good. Now onto the X-Men and their teen selves, yeah I was actually surprised by them all, the characters fitted well and they all seem pretty good actors, I wasn’t screaming at the screen “you’re not the X-Men” like I thought I was going to be. So basically it ended up being way better than I thought it was going to be, don’t get me wrong I thought it would be good but just not this good, in all it had good actors, a great plot and generally lots of fun, so yeah yet another really well made Marvel movie!

Argo (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? The CIA sets out to rescue six Americans who are in hiding during the 1980s hostage situation in Iran.

I wasn’t quite sure what this would be like, I’d heard people talking about it so finally caved and thought I’d give it a go but I have to admit I didn’t really know anything about it. When it started I was like oh what am I watching this is going to be one of those movies but I was actually pleasantly surprised and found myself engrossed in the story more than I thought I would be. It was very interesting and pretty gripping, so if you like things to do with the CIA and movies based on real life then I would definitely check it out!

Transformers (12) – what’s it about? The Autobots team up with the humans to stop the evil Decepticons!

I hadn’t seen this for a bit so thought I’d give it a re-watch, it’s still a great movie, and I personally don’t think the graphics have aged – compared to some other movies. It’s still amusing to watch this one, lots of humour and action, a good mix to make this a good family film. Those of my generation will probably love this, stepping back into the Transformers universe, it was such a good thing to watch growing up, and this is a re-hash of that. It’s good, well I liked it, can’t beat a good oldie…ok some re-makes suck but this one is okies in my books…or DVDs.

And what a surprise...more Nosgoth cartoons

I know recently I haven’t really posted much on here apart from movie reviews but I’ve kept my Facebook up to date with some random stuff…I now have found a few moments so I thought I’d share them with you here also…

So here are some more of my random Nosgoth inspired silly cartoons, just for laughs…

Because Nosgoth related cosplay is stressful...

Beastmaster...isn't he cute

I see lots of this occurring - Beastmaster fall damage...

Can you give one of these little guys a loving home?

With Nosgoth cancelled, the Humans try to find a new job...

I don't think I need to comment on this one

Movies: Eye in the Sky (15), Bastille Day (15), Captain America: Civil War (12A), Demolition (15), Three Kings (DVD – 15), Dominion (DVD – 15) & Payback (DVD – 18)

Eye in the Sky (15) – what’s it about? The military manage to track down several members of a terrorist group and are faced with a political and morality issue.

I wanted to see this and I have to say I could not be more surprised how brilliant this was, the plot kept me locked in suspense, it is most definitely the most well throughout out movie I have seen in a long while. If you like more than just the action, a look at what happens behind the scenes of actions by military personnel then this is definitely worth a look!

Bastille Day (15) – what’s it about? A member of the CIA tries to find the culprits behind a terrorist attack and riots in Paris.

When I started watching this I was thinking hmmm maybe this is a little close to the bone atm, it was a good movie, about a team up of a thief and a CIA agent. It had quite a lot of action and a few laugh moments in it too, it is worth a look if you like cops and robbers stuff.

Captain America: Civil War (12A) – what’s it about? The team are faced with the decision to sign and be under UN control or not, there’s a bit of a split decision and the team battle it out.

Well well well…I’ve seen this twice within 3 days so as you can probably tell its pretty damn good. You know the drill with all the superhero movies, if you love all the Marvel and Avengers stuff then this will be right up your street, though I think it’s a little more thought provoking and political than the others so it may be a little too talky and less humour for some. Definitely worth checking out if you have a spare 2 hrs and 40 mins.

Demolition (15) – what’s it about? After his wife dies Davis goes a little off the rails when trying to cope with his loss.

I wasn’t sure about this when I went to see it, thinking it’s going to be a bad movie and really depressing, that said though I was actually surprised and I come out thinking yeah that was pretty good, not the best film ever but the acting and whole thing was excellent. Even though it was a pretty depressing subject it was actually pretty funny in parts, there were definitely some moments where I had a giggle some because they were just funny and some because it was like omg I can’t believe he/they did that. This is worth a watch if you like drama movies.

Three Kings (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? Three soldiers go on the quest to find Saddam’s gold.

This was pretty interesting; again another movie this week about the military. This one had some good plot again; action and some things that make you wonder and question people’s actions, even though it’s just a movie it does make you wonder. Again another good movie if you like crime and war stuff.

Dominion (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? In five days time aliens will invade earth, an alien and human team up to save a woman and make the world believe.

Ok this was one of those movies I didn’t really know anything about and I think I picked it up for a couple of quid but it was sci-fi and therefore could be interesting or could be really bad. I have to admit that this one falls into the not very good bracket; it was ok, as in to pass the time. The idea of it was ok but don’t expect to see any invasion or what not, it’s just a lot of talking and pre-invasion stuff which in itself isn’t too thrilling or thought provoking. If you don’t have anything better to do and like some shoddy sci-fi then maybe watch it but really wouldn’t expect much.

Payback (DVD – 18) – what’s it about? Porter goes on revenge after he is betrayed and shot by his wife and friend…

I saw this many years ago and found it in the shop for about 50p so I couldn’t resist picking it up to have a re-watch of it. It’s a little dark and gritty, with crime and violence thrown in for good measure. If you like a bit of a rough movie, with some guns and killing then this one will probably be right up your street! It’s a little old now but it is still worth taking a look at if you haven’t seen it before – especially if you like crime stuff.
