Movies: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (12A), Zootropolis (PG) & Doomsday (DVD – 18)

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (12A) – what’s it about? This follows on from Man of Steel and humanity questions if Superman is good or bad.

Well then…well then…what can I say about this one, I actually liked Man of Steel so with that in mind I came away a bit disappointed in this one, it could have been so good but it just wasn’t. It just generally lacked in story and in action, the acting was alright but that was about it. Its not up there with the other superhero movies, its about average really.

Zootropolis (PG) – what’s it about? A Rabbit becomes the first Bunny police officer and moves to Zootropolis and tackles her first case!

This is absolutely brilliant! I haven’t seen an animated movie that was this good well for a long while. As an adult I found it really amusing and I think kids will also find this really entertaining (well the ones in the cinema seemed to). They managed to tick both the boxes for young ones and oldies. It really did make me lol, it has some great scenes and one liners in it, a good story and characters. It was definitely a joy to watch which all the family will love!

Doomsday (DVD – 18) – what’s it about? A virus hits Scotland and it’s sealed off…the outbreak then hits London and an officer is sent to Scotland to find a cure.

Truthfully I put this up to either be a low budget B movie or one of the worst movies ever, I have no idea why I bought it…ok well I do, it was because it was like 50p and I hadn’t seen it. So what can I say? It turns out it was directed by the guy who done Dog Soldiers – so you can get the idea of what this will be like, if you loved that movie then you’ll probably like this one too! This was by far the most surprising gem I have seen in a long while, I absolutely loved it! Its modern world meets post-apocalyptic society at its best, with its modern, medieval and mad-max styles. It’s got enough action to shake a stick at and a basic plot too, so if you love a bit of British violence then you must watch this beauty!

Movies: The Boy (15), 10 Cloverfield Lane (12A) & Humanity’s End (DVD – 15)

The Boy (15) – what’s it about? A new nanny is hired to look after a boy in an old English country house, turns out though the boy is actually a porcelain doll…

Ok I really hate dolls and I thought man this movie is going to be the creepiest thing I've ever seen…and well it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I didn’t think it was overly scary though it was amusing in parts when everyone in the cinema jumped. That said though I actually enjoyed it, if you are a real horror fan then you might be a little disappointed but worth a look if you want an average scary movie.

10 Cloverfield Lane (12A) – what’s it about? A girl wakes up in a doomsday bunker after a car accident and isn’t quite sure if her saviour is friend or foe…

So this one started and I thought yeah going to be another kidnap/survival movie which freaks me out. It was a little dull at first but then (this is so hard to write this without spoilers) I began to question everything…let’s just leave it at that! The second half of the movie gets pretty good, I wasn’t disappointed!

Humanity’s End (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? A robotic-alien race sets out to destroy humanity, whilst the crew of an old starship try to survive.

Yeah like low budget sci-fi – like I’ve said in the past these can be really good or really bad. I don’t mind the whole dodgy graphics if the story and acting is good, sadly in this one some of the acting could have been better but the story was an interesting concept. If you like really shaky sci-fi then you’ll probably like this one, if not though I’d give it a miss.

Movies: Allegiant (12A) & Beetlejuice (DVD – 15)

Allegiant (12A) – what’s it about? The third movie in the Divergent series, Tris and the gang venture outside the wall…

I quite like the Divergent series but then again I’ve never got around to reading the books so the movies have always been an interesting concept. To me this one doesn’t disappoint. I was a little taken back by the fact this turned into a bit of a sci-fi, I love sci-fi but I wasn’t expecting it here, but it’s not a bad thing. Once again this one is a good balance between the story and action scenes. If you like Divergent you’ll like it…though according to a friend maybe not so much if you’ve read the books.

Beetlejuice (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? After their deaths a young couple hire Beetlejuice to rid their house of its new owners.

I hadn’t seen this for years and had to get hold of it again! Its one of those black comedy movies, it’s not so dark that you think why am I laughing at this, its fun even though it’s pretty morbid when you begin to think about it. If you haven’t seen it before and like some of the cool old 80s comedy movies then you will probably love this one, if you can’t see the funny side of death then maybe skip it.

Movies: London Has Fallen (15) & The Kingdom (DVD – 15)

London Has Fallen (15) – what’s it about? The sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, the world leaders gather for a state funeral in the UK and terrorists attack.

If you liked Olympus Has Fallen then you’ll love this one, it’s more of the same with its action and survival suspense. If you haven’t seen the previous movie though you can still watch it, as it’s one of those leave your brain at the door movies that you just watch for the action.

The Kingdom (DVD – 15) – what’s it about? A team of US government agents are sent to the Middle East to investigate a bombing.

This was a pretty interesting movie, it had the political side to it as well as the on the ground grittiness with the agents and their interactions with other agencies. It also along with its investigative side had some good action and suspense thrown in too, which made it on a whole a very enjoyable watch!
